I can’t be the only person on the planet that realized making Rey a Kenobi would be a beautiful tie-in to the Kenobi series, right?!?! Just from a marketing and business point of view, making Rey a Kenobi would make everyone who saw Rise of Skywalker want to watch the Kenobi series to see how on earth Obi-Wan Kenobi ended up having a granddaughter. PLUS, WHAT ABOUT THE KENOBI SERIES!!?!?!? Rey as a Kenobi completes Anakin’s hero’s journey. It’s much more validating if his character’s descendant connected with a Kenobi, thus completing Anakin’s full redemption by destroying the Sith that ruined his life and everything his Jedi-self fought to protect during the Clone Wars. It’s kind of an insult to Anakin Skywalker’s memory. Why in the hell would Anakin’s descendants form a dyad with a Palpatine? The idea is almost cruel that a slave and his master would carry on that connection even after their physical bond was broken. Obi-Wan and Anakin were perfect foils to each other, one passionate, one controlled - BALANCE. Plus, if Rey was a Kenobi, the dyad idea makes a hell of a lot more sense. They were the center point for all the Star Wars stories before the sequel trilogy existed.īy making Ben a grandson of Skywalker and Rey a granddaughter of Kenobi, the story would have found a beautiful balance that vindicated all the suffering and sacrifice that Obi-Wan and Anakin endured. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker started this epic journey. In my opinion, Rey as the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi is the strongest plot line they could have followed. The plot “twist” literally came from nowhere, and was tacked on to the movie’s opening crawl without any foreshadowing in the previous films. To my dying breath I will say that Rey being a Palpatine made no goddamn sense.
